Presentation to the Weld County Genealogical Society (WCGS)

The mother and daughter team of Ruth Firestien and Judy Firestien, of Von Trotha-Firestien Farm at Bracewell, were invited to give a presentation to the Weld County Genealogical Society in April, 2010. Judy gave a power point presentation detailing the history of the farm, owners of the land, and the process for listing the farm on the National Register of Historic Places. The presentation may be viewed by clicking on the link below.

Ruth displayed the commemorative photo quilt she made in honor of the farm's listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The quilt includes historic photographs of members of both the Von Trotha Family and Firestien Family as well as photographs of farming operations, livestock and special farm pets.

The Weld County Genealogical Society's purpose is to "collect, preserve and publish materials for the benefit of general geneaological research". The Society also strives to "promote an understanding of geneaology by encouragement and education in the art and pursuit of geneaological research, and to stress the importance of accuracy and careful documentation".

The genealogical collection is housed at the Centennial Park Branch library located at 2227 23rd Avenue in Greeley, Colorado. The collection includes book specific to Weld County and Greeley Tribune newspaper articles on microfilm in addition to a large collection of Germans from Russia materials.

If you are working on a geneaology project, the Weld County Master Index is a great wealth of information and can be found online via the Society's webpage.
