Supervised Agricultural Experience - FFA

The Future Farmers of America (FFA) program at Windsor High School encourages its students to participate in a Supervised Agricultural Experience during the summer months. Students regularly spend time working on local farms and are required to keep detailed records of the work they perform and the time they spend on each activity.

photo In 2010, Windsor High School FFA Student, Lyndsi Podtburg, spent her summer working on the VonTrotha-Firestien Farm. Her activities varied from mowing the pasture, planting flower pots and helping with weed control, to planting, installing drip irrigation and caring for a large garden with the intention of selling the produce later in the summer at the Bracewell Produce Stand.

One of Lyndsi's special projects was the digging of what has become known as the "irrigation demonstration ditch". This section of ditch enables participants to try their hand at setting a siphon irrigation tube.

Lyndsi caught the attention of a local reporter and her work and school participation was featured in an acticle that appeared in both the Greeley Tribune and the Windsor Now. Click on the link below to read the articles.
